Why is my matt paint marking?Updated 6 months ago
All matt coatings irrespective of durability, mark very easily, it is unfortunately down to the formulation where most of the pigments are not encased within a resin (which creates the matt look) and as you rub against them, due to their relatively rough texture, a friction is created, and one surface is transferred to another.
Paints that do have pigments encased in resin, such as vinyl soft sheen, vinyl silk, and acrylic eggshells do not have this issue, and less friction is created, you almost slide across the surface.
Unfortunately it is the case that if you want that modern matt finish in a non durable product you do need to be very careful with this. Your finger contains dead cells, moisture, and dust which rubs off on the wall and is more evident in darker shades. It's not the case that the paint is "rubbing off the wall" but rather being marked with these cells.
With a more durable product you would be able to clean this but as the Vinyl Matt is not a durable product then it unfortunately cannot be cleaned
